Anomaly breaks birth control barriers for Opill
The campaign launches alongside messaging about access to contraception in the United States.
Anomaly has developed a campaign for Opill centred on improving awareness of over-the-counter access to daily oral contraception in the US. The campaign introduces the brand platform As Easy As Opill and focuses on the removal of barriers such as prescriptions, medical appointments and insurance requirements.
Rather than following a traditional healthcare advertising approach, the campaign uses humour to depict everyday situations in which access to contraception has historically been more complicated. Each execution presents a common obstacle before introducing Opill as an over-the-counter option.
Three scenarios highlight access
The campaign comprises three films. The 60-second Nail Salon spot features a conversation between customers at a nail salon, where discussion about a new relationship turns to the ease of obtaining Opill. The film concludes with an older woman reflecting that she wished the product had been available when she was younger.
Two 15-second films accompany the hero spot. Helicopter Dad follows a father helping his daughter move into her university dormitory before attempting an awkward conversation about relationships, while Revolving Door features a professional balancing a busy work schedule who learns about Opill from a friend while leaving her office.
Campaign extends across multiple channels
The campaign launches alongside messaging about access to contraception in the United States. According to Perrigo, one in 10 women of childbearing age are uninsured, while 20 per cent of uninsured women have stopped using birth control because of cost. The campaign also includes contextually placed digital out-of-home advertising near university campuses and doctors' offices.
Media activity spans OTT, connected TV, digital out-of-home, paid social, digital display, audio, podcasts and influencer content across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
Client and agency perspectives
Evelyn Furia, senior marketing director, global women's health, Perrigo: "Women encounter all kinds of barriers when it comes to birth control access. With 'As Easy as Opill,' we wanted to bring those real-life moments to light in a way that feels authentic and relatable, while showing how Opill allows people to get safe and effective daily oral contraception without a prescription."
Natasha Jakubowski, global partner and chief innovation officer, Anomaly: "This campaign is about making an everyday healthcare decision feel more accessible and empowering. What Opill is doing as a brand is a gamechanger by making the contraceptive pill OTC, and we are incredibly proud to partner with them on rewriting the rules of access. We wanted to meet this disruption with a creative approach that breaks new ground, highlights the very real obstacles women face, but then lands on revealing the refreshing reality that finally getting birth control is now easy with Opill."
