PepsiCo scales water sustainability efforts worldwide

Ahead of World Water Day, PepsiCo has met two of its 2025 PepsiCo Positive (pep+) water targets, marking progress in its environmental and resource management strategy.

The company has replenished 100 percent of the water used at its facilities in high water-risk watersheds and has implemented the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard across all such manufacturing sites worldwide.

Global framework shapes water stewardship strategy

Reaching full replenishment means that for every litre of water used at these locations, PepsiCo restores an equivalent or greater volume through conservation, infrastructure, and agricultural initiatives. The AWS Standard provides a framework for managing water use and improving impact at site level.

Jim Andrew, chief sustainability officer, PepsiCo: "Water is foundational to our business and the communities where we operate. Reaching these goals shows what is possible when business strategy, local expertise, and global partnerships come together. This is pep+ in action: delivering real impact for people and ecosystems while building long-term business resilience."

Local projects support watershed restoration

PepsiCo’s progress is supported by more than 60 local projects aimed at improving watershed health and strengthening community resilience. In 2025, these initiatives contributed to replenishing nearly 29 billion litres of water.

Examples include restoration work in Colorado’s river systems, agroforestry programmes in the Dominican Republic, irrigation and training initiatives in Egypt, ecosystem restoration in Spain, and irrigation efficiency projects in Türkiye.

Roberta Barbieri, global vice president, sustainability – climate and water, PepsiCo: "Water is a fundamental human right, and yet water scarcity remains a significant global challenge, affecting millions around the world. We aim to lead in responsible water stewardship, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. But the work doesn’t stop here. As we look ahead to 2030, we’ll continue striving toward our ambitions — to be Net Water Positive and to live up to our vision that wherever we operate, water resources are more sustainable and more resilient because of our presence."

Future targets extend water commitments

The milestones contribute to PepsiCo’s broader sustainability agenda, including climate resilience and regenerative agriculture, with results verified by a third party.

Looking ahead, PepsiCo plans to expand its replenishment efforts to include franchise bottling operations, improve water-use efficiency across beverage and food production, and support access to safe water for 100 million people by 2030.
