PepsiCo expands regenerative farming efforts

The company said it has expanded regenerative, restorative and protective agricultural practices to 4.7 million acres globally

PepsiCo has reported progress toward its 2030 Positive Agriculture (pep+) targets, citing advances in regenerative agriculture, sustainable sourcing and farmer livelihood programmes.

The company said it has expanded regenerative, restorative and protective agricultural practices to 4.7 million acres globally. It also reported progress in sustainably sourcing key ingredients and supporting farming communities through initiatives aimed at improving economic resilience.

Regenerative agriculture expands

According to PepsiCo, growth in regenerative agriculture during 2025 was driven by increased farmer engagement and collaboration with agricultural partners. The company said it worked with local organisations to develop programmes tailored to regional conditions, combining technical support, peer networks and data-driven insights.

PepsiCo also launched the Supporting Trusted Engagement and Partnership (STEP) Up for Agriculture initiative with Unilever and other food, beverage and retail companies. The programme is designed to strengthen farmer-facing organisations through advisory support and training intended to encourage regenerative practices and more sustainable supply chains.

Sustainable sourcing advances

PepsiCo said 70 percent of its key ingredients are now sustainably sourced in line with its internal guidelines. An additional approximately 2 percent of sourcing volumes are progressing through the company's Engaged pathway, which supports suppliers working toward more sustainable practices.

The company said these efforts are supported by its Sustainable Sourcing Guidelines and Sustainable Farming Program, which aims to help farmers improve environmental performance and strengthen long-term agricultural resilience.

Farmer programmes near 2030 target

Since 2021, PepsiCo said it has supported approximately 224,000 people across its agricultural supply chains and surrounding communities through programmes focused on improving farmer and farm worker livelihoods. The company is targeting support for more than 250,000 livelihoods by 2030.

Among the programmes highlighted were She Feeds the World, delivered with CARE, the Collaborative Farming Program in India, Agrovita with Proforest in Mexico and 1,000 Farmers Endless Prosperity in Türkiye. PepsiCo said these initiatives are measured through its Livelihoods Implementation Framework for Engagement (LIFE).

Collaboration and technology

PepsiCo said it continues to work with organisations including Practical Farmers of Iowa, Cool Soils, Rimba Collective and Milhão to expand regenerative agriculture and support greenhouse gas reductions across agricultural supply chains.

The company also reported investments in precision agriculture, climate resilience technologies and lower-carbon farming inputs. During 2025, PepsiCo said its Positive Agriculture Outcome (PAO) Accelerator supported more than 15 innovation projects and reached more than 1,100 farmers through demonstration farms, field trials and training programmes.

Focus on resilience through 2030

Looking ahead, PepsiCo said it plans to focus on improving resilience for farmers, communities, soils, biodiversity and watersheds while expanding collaboration across its supply chain. The company also intends to increase the impact of its positive agriculture programmes and support farming ecosystem transformation in key sourcing regions.

Jim Andrew, Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Vice President, PepsiCo: "As we continue work to help advance toward a more resilient and sustainable food system, I’m proud of the notable progress we’re making—particularly in scaling regenerative agriculture, restorative or protective practices and expanding opportunities that help strengthen livelihoods. Our Positive Agriculture agenda is delivering impact for both people and the planet. While there is more work ahead, this momentum underscores what’s possible through strong collaboration and continuous innovation."
