DEPT sets science-based net-zero targets

DEPT sets science-based net-zero targets

Digital agency DEPT has had its climate goals validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that its emission reduction plans are aligned with the 1.5°C pathway outlined in the Paris Agreement. The agency has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050, using 2023 as its baseline year.

The SBTi approval marks a significant step in DEPT’s climate strategy, ensuring that its targets are not only transparent but also independently verified.

Milestones on the path to 2050

By 2030, DEPT aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42 percent, transition to 100 percent renewable energy and ensure that 77 percent of its key suppliers adopt science-based targets. By 2033, it plans to cut Scope 3 emissions from business travel and commuting by 61.1 percent per full-time employee. By 2050, the company intends to reduce emissions across all scopes by 90 percent.

In parallel, DEPT has retained its Climate Label certification for the fifth year. The certification requires companies to measure their carbon footprint annually, set reduction goals, cut emissions and invest in projects that offset remaining carbon output.

Transition financing and partnerships

A recent update to the Climate Label introduced a Climate Transition Budget, obliging certified companies to allocate funds to climate solutions proportionate to their emissions. DEPT has invested in renewable energy projects, advisory support to set targets and market-based initiatives such as carbon credits.

The company also partnered with 51toCarbonZero, a climate technology firm that consolidates data across the enterprise to provide real-time insights and track emissions. The collaboration gives DEPT access to both a platform and ongoing advisory support to keep the agency aligned with its science-based targets.
