[Whitepaper] Data-driven AI revolution meets brand management
Every year, the European Marketing Confederation (EMC) reveals the collective thoughts of the European marketing community. This year, the conversation continues to revolve around “AI” and its profound impact on the marketing industry, with a dramatic speed of change. Topics such as strategic management among a variety of other subjects show deep insights and shifts due to ongoing digitalisation and AI insertion.
The European Marketing Confederation is pleased to announce the release of its highly anticipated European Marketing Agenda 2025 report. Titled “Data-Driven AI Revolution meets Brand Management”, the report consolidates the results from around 100,000 marketing professionals across Europe, including CMOs, Heads of Marketing, Sales, and Service, VPs of Marketing, Sales, and Service, and Online Marketing leaders. With 1,698 completed responses from 21 countries, this year’s survey saw higher engagement compared to previous editions, reinforcing its credibility and relevance.
Last year's report showed AI is the nr. one top-of-mind subject for marketing directors all over Europe. The 2025 report delves deeper, revealing new insights and emerging trends. Among the key strategic topics for 2025, the report identifies a paradigm shift: AI Displaces Brand Management and Digitalisation from Pole Positions. Followed by the operational topic: Data-Driven customer engagement emerging as a critical outcome of AI’s exponential adoption in marketing.
Dr. Ralf Strauss, chairman, EMC describes a phenomenon occurring in many industries. “The hurdles and challenges we face are not exclusive to our field. Everybody perceives the flow of data and ironically there is a widespread lack of understanding and knowledge of how AI is changing the way we do business. While repeat customer experience is top of mind, data collection and consolidation to process quality customer data are the missing links to achieve a 360-degree customer view. Additionally, sustainability remains a delicate balancing act between environmental goals and economic realities. This year’s findings touch on these pressing topics and more.”
The report gives again valuable insights into the minds of leaders in the marketing profession in Europe. It underscores the importance of empowering leadership - “leading others to lead themselves” - and highlights the fundamental role of organisational flexibility, cross-functional teams, project management, and digital/AI-driven marketing (MarTech) in building successful, future-ready organisations. Schizophrenic … but true: while almost all executives across Europe stress the necessity of an expansion of skills and competencies in their organisations, only a small number has set up a dedicated and structured framework in terms of a Skills & Competency framework. Therefore, the outcry for an enlargement of skills appears to be some sort of a lipstick service.
