PubMatic launches AI-driven benchmarking for publishers

PubMatic has introduced AI Insights, a set of AI-powered capabilities aimed at helping publishers better understand demand dynamics and make faster decisions to improve revenue performance.

The tools are available through the PubMatic Assistant within the company’s platform and provide real-time benchmarking against a relevant peer set.

Publishers can analyze how inventory, pricing, and demand compare with the market while proprietary data remains protected. Dashboards and natural language prompts allow teams to identify market changes and prioritize actions more quickly.

Understanding demand drivers in real time

Until now, publishers have largely been limited to post-auction outcomes such as clearing prices or winning buyers, with little visibility into the factors behind performance shifts. Determining whether changes were driven by pricing strategies, buyer competition, or inventory alignment often required manual analysis across multiple tools, typically after opportunities had passed.

AI Insights addresses this gap by combining live benchmarking with AI-generated interpretation. The approach is designed to give publishers a clearer view of how buyers engage with their inventory, including which advertisers are active, how budgets move across channels, and where competition is increasing or easing.

Market context across channels and formats

PubMatic works with more than 90 percent of the top 30 streaming services, and the company positions AI Insights as particularly relevant for large-scale connected TV publishers. These publishers often manage inventory across live television, premium on-demand content, and free ad-supported channels, making it difficult to assess shifting demand patterns quickly.

By bringing market context into a single interface, AI Insights is intended to support faster decision-making as buying behavior evolves across formats in real time. The same capabilities are also positioned for omnichannel publishers operating in markets with rapid demand fluctuations.

John Martin, Associate Vice President, Publisher Growth Solutions: “Publishers today are operating in a market where demand conditions can shift in hours, not weeks, and relying on static reports simply doesn’t work anymore. With our AI Insights, we’re applying generative AI to give publishers real-time answers to why performance is changing and where yield opportunities are emerging. This is about innovating on behalf of publishers; protecting their data, preserving their competitive advantage, and helping them optimize revenue in a market that demands faster, more data-informed decision making.”

Publisher perspectives on faster optimization

For publishers managing large digital marketplaces, the ability to react quickly to changing conditions is a key requirement. PubMatic cites Realtor.com as an example of an omnichannel publisher using AI Insights to support more confident optimization decisions.

Yi-Fang Yen, Senior Vice President of Digital Media & Advertising, Pubmatic: “As a digital marketplace connecting millions of homebuyers, sellers, and real estate professionals, Realtor.com operates in an environment where demand, seasonality and buyer behavior can change rapidly. PubMatic’s AI Insights delivers the timely, market-level visibility we need to spot performance opportunities, understand shifts in demand, and make confident, real-time optimizations as conditions change.”

From insights to action

AI Insights is designed to surface actionable intelligence that previously required extensive manual analysis. This includes visibility into how demand and pricing move between private marketplaces and open auctions, which advertisers and verticals are gaining or losing momentum, and how inventory characteristics influence auction pressure.

The platform also provides insight into DSP and buyer behavior, helping publishers see where spend is concentrating or fragmenting across buying platforms. According to PubMatic, early use of peer benchmarking has highlighted pricing opportunities that might otherwise remain unnoticed.

For example, a connected TV publisher identified the potential to achieve up to 27 percent higher effective CPMs for similar inventory when compared with its closest peer cohort across open exchange, private marketplace, and auction package transactions. An online video publisher, meanwhile, found that comparable inventory within its peer set was monetizing at approximately 22 percent higher effective CPMs during the same period, prompting a reassessment of pricing and packaging strategies.

Replacing static analytics with live intelligence

As programmatic ecosystems become more fragmented, publishers often rely on multiple reporting tools to piece together insights. PubMatic positions AI Insights as an alternative, offering continuous intelligence directly within its platform.

Publishers can explore insights through dashboards or use natural language prompts in the PubMatic Assistant to understand what is changing, why it is happening, and which levers may need adjustment. The goal is to reduce analysis time from hours to seconds and enable faster revenue-focused decisions.
