Gracenote elevates AI-powered entertainment experiences
Gracenote, the content data division of Nielsen, has introduced a product designed to improve how TV platforms use artificial intelligence for content discovery. The Gracenote Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server connects large language models (LLMs) with Gracenote’s knowledge base, ensuring entertainment queries are validated, corrected and enriched in real time.
The first release, the Gracenote Video MCP Server, enables connected TV platforms and apps to enhance search and discovery through conversational AI while grounding outputs in Gracenote’s editorially verified data. This supports personalized recommendations and more accurate responses to user queries across television, film and sports.
Enhancing search and discovery with AI
The product allows platforms to respond to complex viewer requests, such as identifying episodes with specific cultural references, compiling box office lists of award winners or locating live sports broadcasts. Beyond text-based results, responses can include imagery, availability details and standardized content identifiers, enabling consistency across sources and linking to reviews, trailers and ratings.

Addressing LLM limitations
While TV platforms are increasingly adopting AI to improve search and discovery, LLMs present challenges. They can generate inaccurate responses, lack up-to-date information and have limited access to structured metadata and visual assets. By grounding results in Gracenote’s verified database, the Video MCP Server aims to reduce these issues and provide a more reliable foundation for AI-driven entertainment search.
The Video MCP Server is the first in a suite of AI-driven products from Gracenote designed to enhance content discovery across video, sports and music.
